Apart from the Appetite for Life offerings, the NRI takes part in special public events throughout the year. The NRI was on site at Charlotte’s premier foodie event: Charlotte Shout. The NRI offered an introduction to its mission as well as nutrition information and ways to get more involved with the NRI. In addition to Charlotte Shout, the NRI took part in Kannapolis Kares Day by collecting a barrel full of nutritious food for Second Harvest Food Bank. The NRI also played a role in the planning of CMC Northeast’s inaugural H.A.R.V.E.S.T. festival in November. The NRI’s involvement in the health fair extravaganza included a booth with special activities for young children. In addition to gathering nutrition information, parents had an opportunity to talk with Dr. Carol Cheatham and register their young children to take part in Dr. Cheatham's cognitive assessment studies. Also, Dr. Cynthia Bulik and her staff gave presentations on eating disorders and provided information at the NRI's booth.
